Japanese Yakuza (gangsters) are becoming more and more fearless when it comes to shooting people in broad daylight. On Sunday, it was reported that 3 shots were fired in a busy market in Tokyo’s Taito Ward killing 42 year-old Shinichi Nakanishi, a former member of the Yamaguchi-gumi. No one has been arrested for the murder as of Monday.

From the Associated Press – “A model shows Sony Corp’s new rolling egg-shaped digital music player in Tokyo, Monday, Sept. 10, 2007. The 40,000 yen, 300 gram Rolly, set to go on sale in Japan on Sept. 29, comes with stereo speakers, 1 Gigabyte of internal flash memory and a battery good for about five hours of music. Overseas sales are still undecided. The smooth white gadget, small enough to sit on a palm, has sensors that recognize which way is up, allowing volume to be controlled by turning the player clockwise or counterclockwise, and tunes can be switched by pushing or pulling it on the floor. “
Hmmm…looks a little like clocky. The famous rolling alarm clock.

This past week there has been 3 separate shooting incidents with 1 death related to Japanese organized crime (Yakuza) gang wars. After several arrests over the past 48 hours the Kobe based Yamaguchi-gumi and Tokyo based Sumiyoshi-kai have contacted the Tokyo police and claim that they have made a truce agreement. This is good news as The Tokyo Metropolitan Police were fearing an all out gang war. The recent incidents were triggered after a high-ranking member of the Sumiyoshi-kai, was shot dead in his car on Monday in broad daylight around 10am. The shootings may have occurred due to a turf war over the Roppongi and Ginza districts in Tokyo. The Yamaguchi-gumi with 21,000 members is Japan’s top underworld crime group and has frequently been involved in turf wars with the 8,000 member Sumiyoshi-kai in recent years.
Some good news…it was reported today that crimes committed by non-permanent foreigners was down in 2006. Police investigated some 27,459 cases nationwide that were crimes allegedly committed by nonpermanent foreign nationals in 2006. That number is down 16.9 percent from 2005.

I am sad. James Kim’s body was found on Wednesday, December 6. After his family was found safe, I had so much hope that he would he found in good condition, also. James was a Senior Editor for CNET.com and loved technology and loved his family even more. If you have followed the Kim’s ordeal than you know that he was a great man trying to save his family. If you want to learn more about James, please visit CNET (or http://www.cnet.com/), they have a great tribute to him. I love everything that has to do with computers and new technology and will miss James and the work he did for the community. I will pray for his wife and 2 daughters and wish that you will too.
James, thank you! You are missed by us all!

30th – How many cases have the U.S. had? When we have a problem it is all over the front page and on all the TV news networks. I read this on the page 11 (of 22) in today’s newspaper. The artical was in a very small column with the news briefs. I asked all my co-workers if they heard about the latest mad cow report in Japan and no one knew anything about this. WTF!?! Japan is a good place, but the news is shady. It is not as bad as China, but very different from the U.S. Read on…

SAPPORO (Kyodo) The Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Ministry said Monday that a dairy cow which died earlier this month in Hokkaido has tested positive for mad cow disease, making it Japan’s 30th case.
The 5-year, 4-month-old cow, which died in Chitose on Nov. 8, will be incinerated and not enter the human food chain, ministry officials said.
The cow was born on a farm in Chitose in June 2001, before the implementation later that year of a ban on meat-and-bone meal suspected of being a cause of the disease.
It had been suspected of infection in a preliminary test by a livestock hygiene service center in Hokkaido and tested positive in further testing by the National Institute of Animal Health in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture.

That says it all. The Zune goes on sale Tuesday. Yes, the Zune will be a failure. Buying songs with points…what?!? A song is 79 points and that equals 99 cents…huh? You can only buy a minimum of $5 worth of points at a time. If you want to buy 1 song it will cost you $5. Microsoft you were so smart and tricked us all long ago, but your games will not keep you in front forever. Brown? Here Apple is selling tons of Red colored Nanos with $10 of the purchase price going to fight AIDS. What is Microsoft doing? They are giving the Universal Music Group $1 for every Zune that is sold to try and make peace for customers that are or will be pirates. D-U-M-B. I want someone to create a new iPod killer to push Apple, but this is not it! Save your money to buy a Nintendo Wii.
